National Post

In this Public opinion Poll, done by the National Post on May 28th, 2012, it shows the New Democratic Party is gaining more and more votes and people are thinking more left winged. The article states that the reason more people are voting for the NDP is because with the current government the rich just keep on getting richer, and the poor just keep on getting poorer. The poll states that over 1/3rd of the people polled chose the NDP, and the liberals were right behind them, and only 1/5th of the people voted for the Conservative Party. Tom Mulcair also won the highest approval rating among the party leaders with 41% of the voters polled giving him a positive rating.

        CROP Polling Firm

In this public opinion poll for the federal election done by the CROP, on September 19th 2013, it shows that from the people polled, the NDP is currently in 3rd place out of all the parties in Canada. Most of their support is coming from BC, where they have a strong presence, and the Atlantic provinces. They are not getting as much support from the prairies though, where the conservatives and Liberals are dominating. Though the article did say that the New Democratic Parties votes were up six points since the last public opinion poll, and they gained a lot more support from the francophone population, since the last poll.

NDP's Tyrone Benskin Broke Rules, Ethics Watchdog Finds

In this story published by CBC’s Laura Peyton, she explains how New Democrat MP Tyrone Benskin broke the rules by having a federal conflict of interest, and not declaring tax debts. MP’s are supposed to disclose any liabilities worth more than $10,000. Last May a media report revealed Benskin owed more than $58,000 to Revenue Quebec. In an interview with CBC News Benskin states that he was having health problems, and he did not have time to file earlier. The Federal Ethics commissioner believes Benskin should have come out about his tax Debt much earlier, and avoided this whole mess.  Liberal MP John MCcallum who made the complaint says that “Benskin has contravened his reporting obligations.”

In this article the NDP is negatively portrayed because of Tyrone Benskin’s scandal, and it puts the party in a negative light. I think this article is unbiased and the writer Laura Peyton is pretty Neutral on the topic. She assesses both sides of the story and does not lean in any particular direction. They actually met with Benskin to ask him his side of the story, and Benskin actually stated that he agreed with Dawson, and she should have more power to punish MP’s in the future who break the rules.
