Consequences of D Day

One consequence of D Day is that American forces had lost a lot of soldiers while they were invading Omaha Beach, but eventually the Germans retreated. After D day, Paris was freed from Germany in August of 1944. Hitler had launched another attack against the US forces in December of 1944, called Battle of The Bulge, it ended in January 1945. The Battle had been unsuccessful for the Germans. The Soviets had been moving their way into German territory during this. After the battle, the Americans, British and the French raced to Berlin against the Soviets. Meanwhile, as the Americans were on their way to Berlin, they discovered the concentration camps. Americans already knew about the camps, but did not know everything that happened in them. They saw people that looked like skeletons, crematoriums and gas chambers. Whatthey knew about the concentration camps was far from the reality of them. On April 30th, 1945, Adolf Hitler committed suicide. He shot himself in the head in his bunker. When the Allies had finally entered Berlin, the found out about Hitler’s suicide. Not long after that, on May 8th, 1945, The Germans had surrendered. This say is known is V-E  Day (Victory in Europe Day.)
