CANADA'S ROLE IN D DAY

Canada played a very important and pivotal role in D Day. Canada was given  a major role on D-Day. Canada had to take Juno Beach, one of the five designated beaches where Allied forces were to land to begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany. Canada had 14,000 Soldiers set to land on the beaches, and another 450 were set to land behind enemy lines. The Royal Canadian Navy also supplied Ships, and 10,000 Sailors. The Lancaster bombers and Spitfire fighters from the Royal Canadian air force were pivotal in the invasion also, by controlling the air. By the end of the day they had progressed further inland than any other allies. The Canadians had battled through the Atlantic Wall, and beat the Germans first line of defence. Canada only ended up having 1000 casualties. The Great Success of D-day wouldn’t haven’t been possible without the Canadians and this is why we should all be proud to be Canadian.
